If all he has left is perception, with no mental filters on it, shouldn’t he have gotten so overwhelmed with sensory data and raw feelings and thoughts, that he’d have mentally broken with reality?
@Alice Macher, that’s the Terry Pratchett way of seeing life 😛
Anyway, perhaps with his great perception came another filter, that only prevent overload but does not filter any “useful” information. A useful-pass filter, if you want
Oh, bloody hell. Yes, we can eat for the simple reason of nutrition and survival, but why the hell would we want to, any more than we’d want to scout a potential mate for the sole reason of procreative potential? We have Coke-flavored Icees and a fondness for black hair and cute faces because life is about more than optimal survival/reproduction. It’s not a lie, it’s more truth than you can ever access through mere “perception.”
@Sir Exal: You’re looking at it wrong. He’s not eating for the sole reason of nutrition. He has a goal: Impress the girl. Step One of achieving that goal – Impress Her – has been accomplished. Now he’s pursuing Step Two: build a body that she would find more attractive. This will also have the side benefit of improving his popularity, health, and general sense of self-worth. In other words: he wants to be muscular, popular, and get the hot girlfriend, just like any guy his age and social standing. His perception merely lets him go about it in a methodical, scientific manner.
Wait. With all that perception, he couldn’t tell there was something different with him till now?

@Drake Works for me. 😀
With great perception comes great responsibility?
I’m still waiting for this to get to the “Humans are a virus destroying the planet! They must be purged!” supervillian stage.
So is this what people see when they’re having an aneurism?
*people see Zach walking up the supports of a bridge, talking to himself*
What sort of conclusion would YOU come to, I ask?
I don’t know. I may not have the proper perception to understand his motives.

@Koolerkid
Woah, didn’t think of it that way. Now I’m wondering how he’ll get a mentor figure tragically killed in the process.
I like the webs strung under the bridge. Suicide prevention? Would fit the ‘great responsibility’ part of the world-theme.
