^ He’s using a crossbow so that’s a given(I mean, even without a broadhead you can’t really make a definite “non-lethal” shot.)… although I was kinda under the impression that Mechtech was some sort of cyborg or something? Maybe it’s the name that led me to think that.
Watch as the the arrow swings back around mid-air, and Mechtech smugly explains that her definition of “machine” is any tool that performs mechanical work.
@ JK9000: If you’re going to go for the absolute literalist definition of “machine” then she becomes an order of magnitude more powerful than presented and is quite frankly wasting her time making guns explode when she could be causing peoples’ bodies to shut down at will.
I assume he got her attention because she was about to do something extremely dangerous to someone else. Like disable everyone else’s guns.
As to why he didn’t shoot her yet… wait, I’m pretty sure this IS the opening moment of the ambush. Like, I’m assuming this happens immediately as soon as Baxter lands on the ground and takes aim. You expected him to shoot while falling through the sky? Those things take a while to reload.
My only question is: why isn’t he using a gun? Previously I thought we saw she couldn’t disable a normal bullet-shooting machine gun. I won’t deny the coolness factor of the crossbow, but I wonder if there’s a real reason for it.
Arky: In the opening moments of the ambush he’s in the air. A snap shot from a crossbow while in midair would be… tricky.
So they land: Di recovers first, kicks Mechtech onto the floor. Mechtech gets up, and gets distracted by Bax before she can get around to turning off the Team’s guns. First by the ‘gun,’ and then presumably by the razor sharp broadhead in her center of mass.
It’s not a bad plan, although if I was table-topping this battle sequence I’d have a third person assigned for the immediate decapitation strike.
LockeZ: I think that Bax picked a crossbow because he figured that MechTech didn’t know what a crossbow looked like. Sort of a reverse “What does that do?” moment, there.
I think a more impotant question is “Wth is happening to Links face?” in Panel 1. It’s nothing that Rumy is doing or planned on happening anyway, she wouldn’t look so dismayed.
@Pow: I think he just did either a Matrix-style dodge, or a probability shuffle (ie his head just tried to dodge every possible way at the same time, and he’ll choose one of the ones that actually worked to be the “real” one shortly). Either is deeply concerning.
Please tell me that Rumy and Di have concealed back up weapons. I can see Wheaties being owned by energy pistols, and Mechtech being owned by Ewok techonology, but Animal and Leader Guy seem to be too much dangerous to face head on. Maybe Di can outmuscle/outmaneuver Animal, but Leader Guy seems to be too tough for martial arts alone.
Link’s only power so far is to get kicked in the face so hard that it knocks his crosshatches right off. I am not impressed and I feel like Animal is the real threat here.
I can’t help but wonder if Mechtech’s horns are some kind of machine she controls, or some kind of brainsucker that controls her.
Yeah, that’s about to ruin her entire day.
Ooh, and a broadhead, at that. Guess bringing them in issn’t really supposed to be on the agenda.

Well in the original timeline she dies of a computer virus, so she can’t be too human.

@ Moe Lane: Judging by her reaction, I’d say you’re spot on.

Is anyone else having a Chiyo/Osaka moment here?

I can’t decide if this proves that T read Ex Machina, or that it shows he didn’t and that the idea is hardly unique…
Oh… now I feel stupid for thinking those things on Mechtech’s head were just part of her haircut the whole time.
@ FrenchFry: Your not alone, I thought they were just apart of her haircut too!
Totally wondering what the hell is going on with Link though.
Oh no! Crosshatch man REALLY IS MADE OF CROSS-HATCHING!
I’m wondering what Hilda is up to… Maybe that decapitation strike Moe mentioned.
Maybe she’s observing Link?
HAH, Crossbow’d b*tch
CROSSHATCH SHIELD!
Wooo! Go Crosshatch Man! Now, use your Crosshatch Counter!
Now I’m 100% sure that a so called Crosshatch Counter wont pop up… Because if it were… I’ll die from shock.
Yeah, they don’t like self-appointed protectors of humanity.
Hypocrite much?
