Julie’s crew nearly died getting to this time, I don’t think she’d wants to risk another excursion for the sake of a single person, right at the eve of that whole “world domination” thing she came here to prevent.
Aside from what we’ve already commented in previous strips (body-swap technology, time travel expeditions, magic, reality changing devices), there’s even more options for saving Rikk I haven’t seen someone mention yet: Ally is a Worthington Syndrome survivor, and has antibodies on her blood that can be analyzed and worked into a vaccine (with a little sci-fi wizardry). There’s also Animal’s healing blood (all the more reason to beat the stuff out of him). The Xenochiclets might take the guys into other worlds where they could find a cure. I also resist to believe AEGIS doesn’t have the miniaturization technology necessary to do a little Fantastic Voyage inside Rikk
But enough about Rikk. I have to say today’s strip totally blew my mind. Never saw it coming.
I totally took Ally’s redemption for granted. And it makes complete sense to see her crumble down and relapse the minute she feels Rikk won’t be there for her, because it was Rikk’s brand of idealism what allowed her to hope for a better tomorrow and dream of a happy life. Too bad this whole scenario seems to be one case of a dream dying along with it’s dreamer. Well played, T Campbell, kudos.
Don’t be silly, it’s not time travel. Is that the face of someone thinking about time travel? no, that’s the face of someone thinking about how they could just beat Animal to a pulp and strap him onto Rikk’s back, as a stylish backpack / life support.
Since its now confirmed that sex can spread the disease, does Rumy have it? How many people did Alison sleep with before Rikk? There might be an epidemic on the horizon and she’s Typhoid Mary.
Rumy was also already cured of it, wasn’t she? I mean, it didn’t happen on screen, but the whole thing about Rumy hiding Ally’s blood in her shirt to infect the General meant that Rumy was also infected. So of course they would have given Rumy the cure too at the same time, right?
Of course, assuming that something happened off-screen that was never actually stated to have happened off screen… now THAT’S the path to madness!
But yes, Animal’s delicious Mountain Dew blood is the first thing that comes to mind. If it can cure WRITER’S BLOCK, it can probably cure this. Rumy’s confidence here is entirely warranted.
Okay, yes, Animal’s blood seems to be a solution… But would Rikk ever accept it? Honestly? I can’t picture him accepting any path that would bring suffering, even to a villain. He’s just too nice of a guy.
Still. Ally should have antibodies for it, right? Real science still applies, even if there’s also magic and soft sci-fi solutions.
Rick is a power of nature. He will only die if he wants to die. And that would only be to save someone elses life. Rick “sacrifice lamb” Oberf. The man, the hero.
😀
Would Rikk accept it? Possibly not. Would Ally or Rumy accept his refusal if he DID refuse? Not bloody likely. It would take an exceptionally florid, brave, heartfelt speech to convince them to let him go, and Rikk is terrible at those. Boy doesn’t have an eloquent bone in his body. No sir. Couldn’t talk his way out of a paper bag.
But Animal’s blood seems to have only temporary effects from what we’ve seen. Maybe that’s just because of the form it was in at the time, I dunno. But if he needed constant doses to keep him alive, he would be able to refuse. They couldn’t force him to just accept it and let it go like if it was just one dose.
Both Rumi and Ally have been cured, pretty sure that they can create antibodies from their blood, if need be. The worrying part is that this seems a little too simple, and I have to wonder if this will somehow lead to the upcoming ‘betrayal’…
And I am incredibly curious how Rikk got it in the first place. Is the syndrome an STI, like some on here have posited, or did it happen in some other way? And if it was transmitted sexually, how long has he had it? I mean, Ally’s been cured for quite some time now, she couldn’t still be a carrier, could she?
Time Travel, duh.

I think I saw this in an episode of X-Men? Infect Wolverine and get his antibodies? =) Hmm.
Oh god, not more time travel. Just let the poor guy die.
I’m more worried about their kid. Could the child have the Syndrome as well, via heredity?
I’m repeating myself here, but:

wow. well played.
It’s not yet clear just HOW he got it yet people! Wait for the comic to clearly say just how he got it…

I don’t think Animal’s blood cure is temporary. We haven’t seen Bax with glasses since he was cured, even in Tiki-Wiki’s future ‘visions’.
But honestly, Animal blood cure would be a little disappointing. I think Campbell has something more interesting in mind for us.

I think Animal’s blood is hard to tell what’s tempory and what sticks… Until it happens one way or another.
