Don’t forget that Rikk was exposed to some type of bug that tried to cyberize him. Desmond Jones gave him some medication to cure him, but what if this is a relapse of that particular bug?
I can’t decide if I want this to be a “realistic” storyline or a fantastic one, but I’m sure it’ll be entertaining. Also to whoever suggested on the previous page that body-swapping tech could resolve any issues with Rikk’s current body: even retired, he’s a fairly public figure, and when word got out that he had done something like that, it would have scary, Dollhouse-like implications for the rest of society, regardless of how empty his new body had previously been. Even if it was grown from scratch, once it becomes acceptable to put your mind in living flesh where it wasn’t before with the intent to stay… I believe “the rich harvesting the poor for spare chassis” is a quote from the storyline involving Fitz’s viral video.
Okay, as much as I crack jokes, I just do that to lighten the mood. It’s just what I do when authors/directors push the plot into dark, serious territory. Most of the time I don’t really mean it.
But damn, I can NOT stop snickering at the look on Ally’s face in the last panel? Does that mean I’m a heartless asshole or something? Because it makes me feel a little guilty… But still, ridiculous jaw drop. XD
@MisterTeatime: What if the donor made a speech or something where he expresses the intent of giving his body to one of Earth’s Greatest Heroes™ so he can continue the Good Fight™, or something like that? I guess that could be a way of sidestepping the whole “harvesting” creepiness.
@Locke: Your NOT a bad person to laugh at a something like that. There is a trope for what your felling. I betting it’s Narm! Cause while yes this a very dark and srs topic. That face Ally’s got is somehow silly lookin’. And after reading your comment I see the hummor in that panal too…
I’ve even tryed doin’ that sad face with the biggest closed mouth frown I can do and widenin’ my eyes then lookin in the mirror and it looks funny even there.
Also sorry for the third post in a row but I’m thinkin’ T just wants us to think it’s Worthington’s Syndrome… And it’s goin’ to turn out it’s totally not.
So…. what does Feddyg know about this? And how? At first I didn’t want to jump to conclusions but this callback to her visit with Feddyg (sort of) confirms it. Quick! Someone tromp through the archives and find us some weird scabs!
“Well, not Jaw Drop, but, you know, a silly looking “shock” face.”
Looks to me like it’s actually the same expression as in the second panel. Seems more like Ally already knows exactly what the problem is, and just wants the doctor to break the news rather than doing it personally herself. She’s possibly already known about this for some time and she’s been waiting for an excuse to do so, given the fact that she is the one who insisted on seeing a doctor to begin with.
…There’s the word. “Dread.” That looks like an expression of dread to me. That stomach-sinking feeling.
We never really figured out what Worthington’s disease actually was, did we? I mean, Ali was the only person (in the current time at least) to ever have it. She presumably got it from a prick from a syringe that was floating in the ocean as a child. But what was in the syringe and where did it even come from? And how does it spread? The General’s timeline had a cure. For there to be a cure, presumably there had to be many others with the illness for it to have even been studied in the first place. Part of me wonders (and this is where the spec potentially goes off the rails) if, perhaps the disease was created in a future timeline as a weapon and Ali was actually targeted as a child.
Blood disease?
Yep–probably Worthington’s Syndrome. Note the t-shirt in panel four.

Wait… Does this mean Feddyg and Rummy have Worthington’s too? If it’s sexually transmitted, that is.

Leprosy?
Rikk’s doctor is the Vault Boy?

@Buzhim: Even if he wasn’t pretty much retired from the hero biz, Rikk would never accept this kind of sacrifice for his own sake.
I’m thinking leukemia, actually. It wrecks your immune system and mucks with your ability to clot.

@Chainsaw I saw vault-boy too at first.

Regardless, I really hope Feddyg’s reaction is, “Holy shit, he’s really dying?! HAHAHA, I was just bluffing!”
That would easily put him in one of my top ten villain lists.
I don’t know why people are seeing the Vault Boy, the doctor is clearly Tintin.

@Buhzim Clearly, Tintin is Vaultboy’s father!
