But extremely gratifying! Once again the characters delight me by acting like real people. Get everyone on the team tested for a communicable disease. Discover the cure that they already know about cures their problem. The obvious solution (which WAS too obvious to be avoided) is still presented in a manner that can surprise me.
😀
For the reasons Stevarious just mentioned, I think this is my favourite strip in some time. The characters have been holding the Idiot Ball a bit too often recently.
Will (with some advice from Jared) is going to have to make some tough decisions. Rumy gave WS to Di, and who know who else…any of a number of Aegis personnel may be thus compromised, directly or indirectly (Baxter?). While everyone does seem important to the organization, there is the potential for inadvertantly exposing civilians & bystanders (innocent & otherwise) to WS via infected Aegis personnel during the course of action.
And if the media finds out about this, a great abundance of material will hit the fan.
I’d be less worried about the bystanders from the operations (Might happen, but seriously, how often are they gonna be swapping blood with the civvies?) and more about who all Ally’s shared needles with in the past…
Aaand there it is. Animal’s blood seems to be the cure Rikk needs (there’s still a chance of Animal’s healing blood having some sort of monkey paw effect, but it’s still too promising to ignore). Alright, guys, go beat that stuff out of Animal as if he owed you money! F him up Scorsese style
Anyway, I have to admit I didn’t considered the possibility of Rikk, Ally or Rumy infecting anyone else with the Syndrome. That means anyone trained by Rumy could be infected, as well as anyone who had to mop Rumy and Di’s blood off the floor, anyone who had to wash or repair an infected person’s bloody uniform and any garbage man that came into contact with Rumy and Ally’s disposed sanitary pads. That’s a lot of people!.
It could be that the Syndrome can’t survive outside of the body very long. As far as we’ve seen, it’s only happened in quick contact, not “Oh hey I accidentally touched a blood drop from three hours ago.” So, hopefully, the janitorial staff and trashmen are alright.
Katherine should still have a couple of maces or morningstars lying around.
Nothing like a blunt object with either flanges or spikes to cause a nice big pool of blood.
Speaking of Guth, Di’s newfound immunity wouldn’t have anything to do with Future!Guth choosing her body to stay in when the poopoo hits the fan, would it?
Anyway…taking into account what Shanna said in the last strip about wearing that uniform and deciding what to do with people’s lives, I predict some conflict here – they’ll have to pin Animal down and forcefully use him as a magic blood factory, just like the guys at Best Korea (for healing instead of weapons, but same principle)
I wonder if Di’s… irritableness? might have been related to the whole Worthington’s Syndrome thing. Hadn’t thought about that before. Maaaybe she’s nicer than she’s made out to be, she was just experiencing hyperactivity heaped upon an already excitable personality.
I dunno about secret government facilities, but the regular govenment facilities I work in and around usually have biohazard buckets for bloody tissues and rags and stuff to prevent this kind of things. Sparring might be the only place other than the battlefield the syndrome could be spread if its only blood-communicable.
“The healing properties of Animal’s blood fade less than an hour after it’s removed from his body,” although according to pg. 21 of “Worse Than The Disease”, “it seems to lose potency about 75 minutes after it leaves Animal’s body.”
These statements are similar, but not the same. How come? Apparently, further research has yielded more exact figures. But has Animal let any blood since the first encounter?
Well, THAT was unexpected….

Ok, that was definitely from out of left field.
Yet at the same time, the whole presentation is quite logical as well..
To quote a certain pointy eared green blooded officer: Fascinating.

Gotta agree, here, with the plan to beat Animal like he owes you money. Baseball bats and chains bringing the pain seems to be the way to go.

Heck, Stu’s letter opener might also be handy. Think Guth might have it?

Oh! Also! Neat book ends, Rumy.
