Maxie (Not sure what name we are meant to be giving her) said “You made it sound like a betrayal”. Shanna is a storyteller after all, she has the ability (not to mention is smart enough) to not reveal all the facts in one go.
I’d say this event, the swapping of minds is the ‘betrayal’ in many ways. The untimely death of Rikk or maybe Keith taking Rikks body while sacrificing his powers. Freedom is very appealing no matter what the cost it.

“Damn” would be an inappropriate thing to say about that, considering to whom the sale was made, but… damn. That seems like a surprisingly logical outcome- people move on to the afterlife when their bodies stop working, God wants things to stay that way, and Rikk owes God a soul. Unfortunately Hilda has no idea it might be coming, so her revelation is almost definitely about something else.
Oh, right, the soul. I totally forgot about that. Subconsciously I probably felt like it had become “non-canon” or something at this point.
If you WILLING to sell your soul to the devil he probably owns it already anyway. Why would he pay for something he already owns?
But, of course, it made sense the devil would want it in Rikk’s case, but than it ended up being “I Am Who Am.” But, then, didn’t God already *own* Rikk’s soul anyway?
I just never got the whole “selling your soul” thing. Seems like God and the devil just aren’t careful shoppers, buying what they already own.
Rikk had to remove the device with his own hands. If God was the one interfering, he could just remove it with his….uh, psychic…energy…uh…the thing He used to protect Rikk and co. from Mist’s agents’ bullets back then.
I’m thinking of another thing. The enemies in this saga are called “cuckoos”, right? What if this guy isn’t just the unlucky sea diver they think he is, and is one of the cuckoos…trying to assume control of Rikk’s body? Maybe the machine malfunctioned because he “awakened” during the process. Crosshatch Man Link can change the form of his (their?) body, right?
The general public still doesn’t know they’re trying a body swap with Rikk. This could be a great way to ruin Aegis’ reputation, the ol’ “Take the hero’s body and do evil things” plan.
In the future we just saw MechTech’s statue in one piece, one of the broken ones could belong to this guy here.
What is that thing he’s pulling off, anyway? An electrode or something?
Anyway, I doubt this is God’s doing. More likely a trap, all things considered. Maybe even one set up by Feddyg? He was holding back this information about Rikk’s illness till recently… It could all be a crazy Xanatos Gambit to make his magic the only possible cure.
Those are UH-OH eyes if ever there were UH-OH eyes… D=
Totally thought that Rikk pulled an egg from his head, there for a minute.
“… LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, BEHOLD!”
That is the face of “whoops” if I’ve ever seen one.
What is it? Something even more ominous ahead, or maybe we’re seeing Hilda’s reaction to Ally’s shady past as Allysin?
Maybe Shanna’ll be the one who does the inevitable betrayal?

I bet it doesn’t work because Rikk sold his soul.

@Joraiem
Yes,that’s an eletrode-type something; a small disk-shaped device that facilitates the mind switching.
I think with the soul, God just took possession of it early, while it was still in perfect condition.
No way for the devil to corrupt it, and Rikk would stay that ‘good’ for as long as he was alive.
