Absolutely prefer the notice, with as much information as you can give. It keeps the compulsive among us from sitting there hitting F5 every two minutes, wondering what has happened to their perfect scheduled little world.
Thor is absolutely right. I sat there hitting command+r for about 12 minutes from 8:58 until about 9:10, at which point I realized something was wrong since you guys were outside the range of normal deviancy from the 9:00 PM regular post time, so I went down for a light supper, come back and refresh, its up (It’s excellent, btw, both the comics), and there’s the notice in the forums.
Aww, that seems unfair. Rikk finally makes the realization that his life as a father is important enough to go through the operation for, and now it’s not going right.
Why must important decisions be followed up by tragedy?
I wish all webcomic authors who miss a strip would put one up so their audience doesn’t waste time refreshing and coming back and being all “where’s the strip?”.
Generally I wouldn’t say to bother with one for a merely late strip… unless you’re T Campbell or Howard Taylor and a late strip is such a rare or impossible beast that it suggests something has gone wrong and your fans are prone to get worried about it.
And of course Rikk loves his life. He’s the leader of a sci-fi hero squad, beloved by everyone, universally regarded as a swell, upstanding guy, despite being a bigamous government agent married to both Rumiko Takahashi’s lesser known child and to Death of the Endless.
And it’s too bad Fritz’s machine conveniently malfunctioned, but the important thing is that Rikk actually gave it a try. Voluntarily. Great. That means he might want to give it a try to other options as well. It’s not like he’s out of options…
Rikk sabotaged the machine in some way. For him, the important thing is that the child knows he TRIED to be around for it. By sabotaging the machine he can make it seem like an accident, removing the feeling of abandonment that is what he feared. Or more likely not but hey, it’s what I immediately thought when it popped up.
Late notice please. There are a number of webcomics I used to read but stopped since the creators would go on unexplained hiatuses. Just would like to know if there’s a temporary delay or if it is a 3 month sabbatical.
Nah, Fitz loves science too much to sabotage his own project and endanger his funding with such a high-profile accident. I mean, that last panel may well be the end of everything for Fitz. This is literally the worst thing that could possibly happen for him.
I think the ‘betrayal’ is going to be someone much closer to Rikk… Someone who’s been there since the beginning… and I also think it’s going to be as unintentional as it will be impossible to prove that it was NOT unintentional.
I’m calling Plot Shenanigans. Don’t buy into it, Rikk. Get a full-on surgical brain-transplant. Screw this mental-transfer-mumbo-jumbo, pulp sci-fi and horror had it right all along! Or, alternatively, get your head sawed off and attached to Jared’s body. Before anyone asks, “Why Jared?”, trust me, watch this trailer and you’ll see that it’s the only way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWHNA_j7h5A
@Locke: I’m with you in this one. Why make a backup in a drive known to have boot issues? There is no such thing as a deep dive accident without damage. Divers die for a reason (mostly related to expanding gasses that lead to brain damage, boiling blood, etc. and they human body not being a perfect airtight machine).
Never trust in refurbished hardware.
Annnddd … the dead brain guy doing the tarantela… thats something wrong indeed 😀
I like the halfway notices.

Much much rather know than just be wondering.
Gracias. Comic is up now, but has the same filename as the halfway notice, so hit refresh if you don’t see it yet.

Notice would be nice, though if it’s only going to be another 5 minutes or so, I think I’d rather you spend the time getting it done and up.

Definitely a halfway notice. DEFINITELY.

I put a “late” notice even though I don’t have any readers. I’ve been on this end too often!
Although, didn’t realize it was updated at 9! Perhaps I’m the one who’s late 😉
LOL at Rumy’s shirt.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this comment will be a little bit late tonight.

With RSS, I just look and see what has updated.
I like the late notices but only if they are updated in the RSS when the release is put out.

Sometimes things happen that are beyond our control. Hurricanes, power outages, inept repair workers, lying cable operators, etc.
AHA! There’s the betrayal. Fitz totally fudged up the machine. I’d bet my coffee on it.

I’m def pro-notice.
