See, this is the kind of thing I expect from Rikk, but it still just illustrates how silly the whole issue here is. This man is basically dead, and yet they’re going to bring him back, I’m sure. So why is it such a big difficulty to cure Rikk? There’s so much plot armor with all the advancements they’ve made, that the more they talk about it, the sillier it will seem if Rikk does die.
I you’d not included something like this I, for one, would have been very upset. But, here it is. Sure, Rikk is saying he does not want it, but everyone else acting like it’s old hat. I know it would have been nice to have all this building tension about Rikk dying and all that, but this is what would *realistic* happen given your current premise. It’s refreshing to see you not try to milk this for extra drama and just be saying “Hey, look, its a super-fit brain dead body, and if that other plan does not work, here it is. Super-virus? No big deal.”
Other complications might arise later, sure, and I respect that, but, as I said a few comics back, I’m just glad the brain switch option is being addressed.
This is why Rikk is awesome. He’s more at peace with his own death than with letting someone’s family suffer a loss. Shocking that Keith hasn’t pointed this out.
As I stated earlier, the only way Rikk could die without someone crying foul is for him to _want_ to die. Rikk might see some greater good in him dying, or he might just object the idea of proclaiming himself more than human by means of artificial immortality. That would be very Rikk of him.
I’ve been wondering since the switch… How come Feddyg can still access the magical powers of the order of the dragon, but Fitz can’t even seem to access the shape-shifting powers inherent in his new body? I mean, it subtly apparent that he can’t even do that – a big dragon body would be incredibly inconvenient for doing science (Mmmm….Science…) so if he COULD transform, he totally WOULD.
Is the magic broken because of the body switch?
so… they would upload Rikk’s mind in a dead brain…. how that works? are they going to deep format the drive? 😀 Are they going to leave old partitions? and most important: Are they going to keep a backup copy of Rikk’s soul? this reminds me of the riverworld (the novels) and its implications….
@Stevarious: He was perviously an old, infirm man with the mind of a child. He know possess the body of an EFFING DRAGON. I doubt he’d want to give that up, even temporarily, despite the inconvenience. Hell, I know that I would want to stay a dragon as often as possible, had I the option.
@Stevarious: To add to what Koolerkid said, it’s also possible that he DOES transform from time to time, but those times are infrequent and we the audience don’t get to see them. The dragon form is his “main” body, so we’ve always seen him with it.
That being said, we don’t know for sure, and this could certainly be a plot twist somewhere down the road (if he still can transform).
And it’s also possible that he just doesn’t know how to access that ability.
It’s not as if the body came with a manual explaining how to access the various abilities. The ones directly related to muscles, like flight are probably the easiest to learn. Kind of like learning how to ride a bike.
But the magical ones, that would be another story all together.
Feddyg on the other hand learned how to tap into the magic that still exists in the world. That probably took months, but he had folks who could help tutor him (like the erstwhile inhabitant of the body that Fitz now calls his own).
Now while Hilda might know how Fitz could shift his body, courtesy of the teachings of her Father. There’s also the security aspect to consider, so she might not want to teach him that.
Makes it kinda hard to keep track where he is, if he can shapeshift into any humanoid form he wants.
So this is why Ally needs Feddyg, so he can “persuade” Rikk into finding his missing self-preservation instincts. Okay Rikk, what if we download your mind into a robot? You okay with that?
Rikk: “But what if it achieved sentience one day? We’ll never kn-”
On the subject of Fitz’s body’s former inhabitant, whatever happened to Gryzinsky after the switch? I still say he’s secretly Bellhop, but what do we actually know?

Dear T Campbell,
Thank you.

HEAL HIM WITH YOUR MESSIAH MULLET, RIKK
All dead, well the best you can do for them is go through their grey matter and hope for loose neurons.
This is why Rikk is awesome. He’s more at peace with his own death than with letting someone’s family suffer a loss. Shocking that Keith hasn’t pointed this out.
Yep, this is the Rikk we know and love all right.

ilu Rikk <3
Can always count on Rikk for the courage of his convictions. He shines brightest when he speaks for a future few others even considered. Bravo.

Ha! I just watched the Princess Bride (again) last night.

Goddamnit, Rikk, just get into the damn robot

I get the feeling that Rikk was noble to the tragic end in the time hoppers’ time line.
i get the feeling that the doctor knows rick very well.
