I’m just saying this right now. If ANYONE not in the comic strip, even hints that she was “asking for it” or comments on the way she’s dressed as justification, I WILL TRACK THEM DOWN AND HURT THEM.
Pretty sure they’re right, she can take them all on. And probably will if they press the matter
Oh, and fan girl, calm the hell down. Nobody’s going to say that getting raped is acceptable under any circumstance. And you know what? Yeah, spending your time flirting with 4 guys in a biker gang in a bar is probably a bad idea. She *is* kind of inviting trouble here. Just because a woman has the right to do as she chooses doesn’t mean that all her choices are going to be smart.
DFG, I understand where you’re coming from, but apart from DHK’s joke about Hilda “asking for it” (which I took to mean asking for sex, not rape), the only point being made here is that Di’s actions are comparable to Keith’s the first time he met Ally. Letting someone you just met tie you up and blindfold you and lead you to an undisclosed location isn’t a moral sin that means you deserve to be beaten, abused and basically raped. But it is extremely unwise. Same principle applies here. Di isn’t being quite as risky, but she should’ve either made it clear that she had a direct line to AEGIS to these guys she barely knows, or asked Olav out for coffee before Hilda had left.
And I understood what DHK meant. That’s not what I was talking about. The attitude that it’s somehow the responsibility of the victim to prevent the rape just pisses me off.
AND actually she’s safer with these guys than she is with some guy she knows.
There has got to be some sane middle ground between saying “Well, you really deserved to get raped” and acting like the riskiest of social behaviors is perfectly smart. Granted, this isn’t the RISKIEST thing she could POSSIBLY do, but having beers alone with a group of tough-looking strangers who all know each other is not something that *I* would consider safe.
Like I said, DFG, there’s no excuse for rape. It’s unacceptable. That’s why we call it “rape” and not “regrettable sex”. And nobody, man or woman, who has been forced to have sex against their will deserved it. But that doesn’t mean that precautions are unwise. Not like there would be anything much to worry about… I mean, come on. We all know Di can kick their asses unless they’re secretly supervillans (which, well, considering how shitty her “disguise” is something which she might want to take into account… but I digress)
But you may as well say that since nobody deserves to fall off a cliff and die, you’re perfectly ok to go rock climbing with no rope and helmet. Is it within your rights? Sure it is. Am I going to say it was deserved? No. Am I going to say it’s wise? Hell no. Hyperbole, to be sure, but the point stands- there are such thing as good and bad ideas. Reasonable precautions should be taken during, well, pretty much all things in life. Stop drooling and start thinking, because all the moral outrage in the world isn’t going to undo what has been done if you aren’t watching yourself and something bad comes your way. The best treatment for a bad situation is to never let it happen. Just because it’s not your fault if someone acts against your will doesn’t mean you don’t have a responsibility to yourself to stay safe. Something I honestly hope you and others will keep in mind, because you can’t always trust others to have the purest of intentions.
I would also like to note that NOTHING has happened for anyone to blame Di or the guys for. Making an offer is NOT the same as rape as it can still be turned down. Which she did. And saying she is safer with these guys than guys she knows is a bad representation of statistics.
Even if Di was naked, wasted, and loudly stating that she wanted sex, it would still be a felony to forcefully subject her to a sexual encounter she hasn’t agreed on. That being said, rapists are opportunistic felons. If you deny them optimal conditions for their crime, most rapists won’t go for it.
Bar fight!
“Menage a cinq”?

Have a nice day.
Fan girl, I’m pretty sure Hilda is totally asking for it.
Abb3w: “Pulling a train” is the porn term she’s referring to, I would imagine.

^ What anon said. Also, if one has to get angry over offensive online comments, it’s best to wait until such comments have actually been made.

I’d recently yet another example of why the Rape Apologist Bingo card got made.
