Soulson’s look of deep concentration makes me laugh. Despite his appearance, he’s’ only a few years old, and human concepts such as board games are quite difficult for him. Love how Rikk and Rumy have the infinite patience to explain basic concepts like dice for the umpteenth time, while Ally…doesn’t. Also, is that picture from Soulson’s high school prom?
Rumy’s somewhat guarded body language is also interesting.
I wonder if they actually followed Will’s cue and named their baby Mark. He was already conceived when the future guys split the timeline, so he should be genetically identical to Joseph. On the other hand, if they hadn’t yet decided on a name, they wouldn’t have any emotional attachment to “Joseph”. They might even feel better giving him a different name to signify that “this is the one who doesn’t grow up in a crapsack world and gets bisected by his half-brother”.
I always imagined post-collegiate Rumy as fairly stocky, so I’m inclined to look at this illustration and think that most of what she’s gained is muscle. She looks bigger to me than the last time she wore her hair long– but not bigger than she was in “Beginnings.” She obviously won’t be training nearly so obsessively in retirement, but I suspect she’ll always be much fitter than most people in her peer group.
Jason’s art is largely open to interpretation on this point, though.
Though honestly the patterns on everything in this epilogue have been a little… questionable. Hilda’s house looked like it was designed by Adrian Lynx.
Just started reading this webcomic from day one, onto Soul Quest now. I inadvertantly looked upon the last pages (the ‘end credits’) but I am not to be deterred; the story and the art has me hooked so far.
Re: Rumy’s body:
I think this is the first time I find Rumy hot (other than that time when she experimented with her looks and she showed up dressed in a skimpy sailor fuku, much to Meighan’s [guilty] and Tim’s [unapologetic] delight).
On a related note, is it me, or does Ally seem bustier to you on this strip?
…Is the baby levitating those toys?!

Mark Oberf’s toys are Science Fiction themed.
@PharmaDan
The lines suggest those aren’t toys, but a baby mobile. Then again, it’s kind of hard to tell for sure given the way it’s drawn.
Call me a fool, but this one just… made me tear up. Can’t quite pinpoint why, it’s too close to the moment, but, just, everything about it…
So they did take him in. I’m honestly a bit surprised…
Aww, that’s sweet.
“You mean you have to use your hands? That’s like a baby’s toy!”
Alternatively, “Mom, this game [vacuum cleaner] [Donkey from Shrek]”
“So… wait. The object is to get from A to B… but you have to pass through every point in between? Seriously?”
Aaaaawww!

So now Soulson is a teenager annoyed with and embarrased by his nerdy parents.
I guess that’s a MILD improvement over trying to destroy the planet.
Soulson: . o O ( Should’ve nuked the whole thing, while I had the chance. Now the best I can do is flip this table. )
Don’t worry, Soulson. Your shirt does to humanity what that board game is now doing to you.
so what’s Ally doing with her left hand?
Hiding her weighted dice
Supporting her weight as she’s leaning forward onto the table would be my guess.
Holding the gun on him in case he gets outta line.. She’s the “Evil Stepmother” after all..
Good god, they made a sweater from Link’s carcass.
I keep hearing Soulson using Wesley’s voice: “Ah. It’s to be torture, then.”
I love Ally’s expression.
Is it me or did Rumy gain weight?
@Commiekeebler – She no longer has to be the uber-warrior. Maybe she’s relaxed a little?
Am I really the only person who recognizes a field sweater?
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/43324?feat=507932-CL1 is a good one, though Bean’s is calling it a “commando” sweater now. They also come in Henley form.
They’re astounding comfortable, and nicely warm. One of those is more than enough on a cool autumn day or even evening.
Admittedly, I haven’t seen a turtleneck’d version, but that just means I haven’t seen it.

Recognizing the design of a sweater doesn’t make the pattern any less ugly.

Good work on creating such an engrossing comic.
Hear, hear ^

Is it getting hot in here?
