There’s a lot of references to the current storyline packed in that crossword. Pieces of dialog (“liono”, “ani”, “aria”, “wil”) and crossworders’ names (“rod”, “lynx”, “kaylee”).
“Swastika” could be clockwise or counterclockwise, but if it’s left-facing it’s often called a Manji, ε, or a Sauwastika.
What is depicted in the comic is not a Manji, ε, or a Sauwastika. It IS laying flat, unlike a Nazi Swastika, but a Sauwastika is “left-facing.” What is depicted is a “right-facing” symbol and is, indeed, a Swastika. A way to remember is that a Swastika is like “SS.”
However, it might not be a Nazi Swastika. Swastika are very very old symbols and predate the Nazis by… about…. 8,000 years. They are, in fact, one of the oldest symbols in human history.
The letter δΈ comes from a swastika, for example. I think it was classical Chinese who changed it to the three-stroke version. Although, please don’t quote me on that.
I’m pretty sure that is just a standard crossword puzzle grid. I mean, yes it is small to fit the square but as a player of crosswords that doesn’t look like anything besides what would be standard for a grid that size.

I thought, maybe if I write them down like a crossword puzzle instructions, I might see a connection… but no. I also don’t see anything in the diagonals.
Oh well… you never know with T when he might decide to plant something.
the grid doesn’t mean much to me… but the swastica… nazis again?
I’m glad they showed Deep Grey there I would have never gotten that reference otherwise
If she’s looking at the fourth wall in panel 5, does this mean we’re looking at the fifth wall?

could someone verify if thats a manju or a swastika?
It’s perpendicular and clockwise, so it’s a Manji.

So, she’s meditating to break the fourth wall?

@Locke I think she’s looking though the fourth wall WITH meditating the way her day showed her.
Add on thought: I belive that Hilda’s seeing though the Fourth Wall at of course, panel 4…
Also hate that typo… Why that second d be a y?

@kingleon: Now the true question is what are the Crossword clues for each of these words?
So we’re looking at a Jeopardy-style puzzle, where the answers are the questions that are formed?
That’s what I’m guessing Biker Matt… That’s what I’m guessing. But I’m sure we’ll learn more in the next comic just what’s going on.
