DAMMIT. Oh well. We knew ye well, Jesse. Well, actually, no, we didn’t. We didn’t at all.
I really want this guy to be ‘saved’ through some plot twist later on, or something. I actually liked him. He was wacky, interesting, and had a strong A-Team vibe (Though more of a Murdock than a Face). It sucks to have him end this way. Darn you, Jesus Rick!
…Wait, that’s it! Rick’s such a archetypical messiah character that maybe he can bring Jesse back around! And then, later on, Jesse will join the team for real and struggle to work past everyone’s distrust and find a place on the team! That’d be great! Yay, happy ending for once! Defused drama bomb!
What’s strange to me is that over the last year he’s had literally a zillion chances to shoot Rick. He could have done it at any moment. Why wait so long for such a contrived scenario if that had been his goal all along?
Because something BIG is coming, and this is the only way Jesse thinks he can get the rest of AEGIS to be on their guard? Before he started shooting, he was monologing about how Rikk had let his guard down, and how he shouldn’t trust anyone, which leads me to believe that he’s doing this as a warning. That, and the chapter title is Call To Arms.
As for what the threat is, my guess is alternate universe mind hijackers. There was that Riff expy a little while back who was from an alternate reality, so it could be more of that. Also, reminding Rikk of the General could be to get him thinking about the possibility of enemies from beyond Earth. The mind hijacker thing comes from my idea that it would be something that it would be something that Jesse would be well suited to resist to a degree, and could be a lead in to an Invasion of the Body Snatchers homage/parody.
Anyway, my speculations are starting to become rambling, so I’ll stop here.
If the future’s planning a jihad against Team Alpha, they wouldn’t want to fight the Order of the Dragon along the way. Wait until that’s done, then strike.

wow i was not expecting this. the fact that it’s not over yet has me eager to see more.
Huh. Even at this point, I cannot tell whether Jesse is really a double-agent, or just pretending to be one in order to motivate Rick to do something.

See Jesse’s earlier monologue re: assassins.
