So, ultrapowerful Mechtech 2.0 can’t display a text message warning Ult?
She can try, but Ult’s just had his eyes lasered pretty good.
And now I’m imagining T’s secret glee at all those complaints about Jared monologuing. He knew that his misdirection was working on us just as well as it was on Hyperman.
OK, complained too soon about Jared’s apparent idiot ball moment. Nice double fake. Well played both T and Jared.
MechTech is powerful, not brilliant- she didn’t realise that Ult couldn’t hear her, so even if she can display a message on the screens and he could see it, it simply didn’t occur to her to try. Seems reasonable to me.
So Jared is smart enough not to do the stupid things that snared most of the people in AEGIS’ holding cells, but will this be enough for Jared to get out. Maybe he faked getting knocked down. There’s also the matter of the facility the laser is about strike. Last I knew it was deep underground so that laser is going to have to penetrate a lot of earth and concrete before it kills anyone. That could give Ult enough time to escape as well as Mech Tech to download elsewhere. Then there is Feddyg who might be able to erect some form of energy shield after the laser burns through the seals, but before it burns him.
Who says it’s a laser? Notice something about Ulty in the last three panels or so? His “Ultraman” shape’s wearing OFF-like maybe he can’t sustain it for long. We know from the Star Wars testing that Lasers don’t really have that strong an effect through that much atmosphere. a Kinetic-kill weapon’s more likely (brilliant pebbles maybe), and a ground-shock’s going to be a lot more use against a buried bunker, than a fancy flashlight is, esp. if it’s aimed at the right location.
*Please* let them finally kill one of these aliens. I’m getting tired of their inexplicable immortality.
…and I imagine Mechtech just hadn’t thought of a text message. Ult wasn’t looking at her either before that last panel, so its usefulness wasn’t exactly obvious.
I don’t fully understand the purpose of the satellite, but if Jared’s purpose was to nuke AEGIS headquarters, thereby killing Ultraman & MechTech, then he must have known he risked his own life & that of the prisoners. Which is why he set those free – except Feddyg…
I’m just surprised Mechtech doesn’t have a microphone so she can hear what Ult hears. But, maybe she does and its just not set to the right frequency.
If Ult can shape-shift himself new powers you think he could also shape-shift away his super hearing, but I guess we don’t fully understand how their powers work.
I always just thought they were like White Martians, since this storyline has many many parallels with the JLA Hyperclan storyline.
Not just to waste time: also to provide a plausible explanation for Jared’s actions other than “I need to blind and deafen you so your colleagues can’t warn you about the imminent orbital death strike”.
looks like Ultraman is morphing into the civilian non-powered self. Maybe Jared surmised that he would do this to avoid the hipersonic attack. Maybe he is not deaf and blinded now, maybe he is not invulnerable …
One thing I will point out is, even though we want Ultraman to die off here, it would also be a little unsatisfying if our introduction to Mechtech 2.0 was her messing up and being unable to save her teammate. I’m sure she’s going to be able to show off her new powers in some way to prevent that.
“…Dodge this.”
So, ultrapowerful Mechtech 2.0 can’t display a text message warning Ult? Anyway, that wasn’t a complaint. Get him, guys! Fire away!
It’s the only way to be sure, of course.
Aha! Jared DID know better. Genre savvier than I thought. The explaining was just a distraction for the real attack.
Quick, Feddyg, do your Jazz Hands! ONLY THAT WILL PROTECT YOU FROM THE ORBITAL STRIKE.
Oh, man. That’s awesome. Too bad it’s not going to work.

Moebius: Ultra-powerful, but no less lacking in common sense.
@Locke: You win an internet good sir XD
@Jon: So basically if the story has to be unpredictable it has to become predictable? INCEPTION
When the going gets tough, the toughs call for Kill Sat support…
Ahahahahaha! *slow claps*
Speak softly and carry a orbital ion cannon.

“…and then Puss’n’Boots dared the ogre to use his magic to turn into a mouse…”
My thoughts: “YAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaJared wait no!”

[S] Descend.
@Aydr – SAME ;A; JARED NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

;A; – is that two people giving high-fives?
Ult going into his reporter with glasses mode is not adequately explained – is that the effect of the grenades wearing him down or the orbital cannon?
If there ever was a fun red button to push, that cannon has it.
Huh. That’s clever.
So the Monologing was only just to waste time! Awesome planing, just awesome! Jared has this fight in the bag. :3
Damn, Jared knows how to play this game! Wheels within wheels! Well done.

Is Ult reference to League of Legends?
Nope, more a reference to Superman. (and his derivatives)
Ult existed a long time before LoL
