Yeah, I never got that: How could Hyperman be a cuckoo (or animal, either, for that matter) if we saw him normally before? Alien parasites or something?
@MaulMachine: Is there some rule requiring that the cuckoos can’t have been on Earth for more than a certain amount of time? It’s perfectly possible that they have been here for years, maybe even centuries, but just recently got their shit together and decided to start taking action.
The lack of knowing what the deal is with the cuckoos is either a way to heighten the suspense for the audience or another way in which the General has not helped out Aegis.
It would be nice if this is the event that breaks the chain that keeps leading to the future they want to prevent, but I fear Mech Tech is going to shut off the grenades and guns before he can finish Jared off. Hopefully, he’ll have enough time to get the hell out of there before Ult recovers.
@MaulMachine, in his original appearance, he resembles a ‘gray’ but is able to shapeshift to resemble the reporter who accidentally summoned him using the dice that grants secret desires. I wonder if that’s what all the Cuckoos originally looked like or if that form was itself a shape shifted one?
Was NOT expecting that twist. Really well played. I still feel uneasy about Jared’s fate though. Really hoping this isn’t a double fake-out of the “He’s not going to die after all!!… except… crap… guess he is…” variety.
Another thought – this would seem to serve as official confirmation that MechTech, like Soulson, is NOT the same species as the rest of the Cuckoos right? She maintains her cybernetic form and body even after being rendered unconscious. Can’t concentrate on keeping form when you’re KOd.
@Bunny: not necessarily. My theory is that each cuckoo is half-human, half-other, where the other part is a Random Galactic Mutt (RGM). They have different powers because their other “parents” are all from different worlds.
I’m worried that this is in fact a double fake out, too. Hyperman was mentioned by the future travelers, which means he survived this encounter previously. And if he survived, what does that make of Jared, other than a wet spot on the ground?
But then again, Jared might have improvised better this time around.
uuuuunnnnnnnnhhhhhhhh….!!!!!!!!!!!! just wanna next comiccccc! maggPi b wurkin’ long hours b brain-fried nott can think rite like fellow reedrs with shiny ideazz,,,, ah-durrrrr..durrr.. *clik*
I’ve got a really bad feeling and I’m repeating the oft repeated Star Wars phrase because I remembered Revenge of the Sith being a clue. If Rumy is pulling an Anakin Skywalker I fear what she will do to Mace Windu aka Jared Cognomen just as he’s about to deliver the killing blow.
Jared may not have lived to meet Hyperman in the original timeline. Jared himself suggests that he originally released Keith, hoping that Keith would help, and was probably killed immediately after doing so.
@Brasca1 Grenades don’t have an “off” setting, once the pin is removed and the spoon’s free you better find some cover because that sucker’s going off, the space for fuzing on anything that small isn’t big enough to allow for more complexity while still being reliable.
This isn’t good. Jared’s taking all his advantages in this one comic. There won’t be anything left with which to justify a victory in the eyes of the reader at the end of the fight.
Ohhh… those kind of grenades. So Jared gets to live…for now.
Niiiice…good job, T!
Doin’ good, J. Doin’ good.
Jared is made of pure win.
Where am I supposed to remember this baddie from? I must have missed those pages.
Hyperman, from back when they were just the Science Fiction Club.
He’s got a new look, but we got a preview of it during the new General’s plot exposition.
Aww, Jared, you can’t explain your trap BEFORE he’s dead or captured. Now he’s bound to turn out to not be a cuckoo or something.
Come on, you should know these rules.
Yeah, explaining BEFORE you win is a really bad idea for villains and heroes alike. I’m betting a hope spot before regular service resumes.

@Cat: Read the Book One: Fantastica. Specifically the chapters Fans, Slams, and Hyperman.
Well played, Jared, well played!
Jared’s tears cure cancer. Too bad he never cries.

Man, Earth just has not been kind to Hyperman.

here wondering if we will have a Rumy – Hiperman rematch…
Doin’ it like a boss, Jared. But really, you should be genre savvy enough to know not to ask that question!
T sure knows how to write badass!
O, and I love the detail of how Hyperman’s pupils resemble the hammer of an alarmbell going apeshit.

Okay, am I the only one wanting to edit this page and the few before it to give Jared Easter Bunny ears and a poofy tail?

@ck – Good point. Jared is probably just incorrectly extrapolating that all of the Cuckoos are like Hyperman.

@Commiekeebler

Hyperman’s facial expression here reminds me of Charlie Brown.
Now that you’ve seen it, it cannot be unseen.

Then again, fantasy universe, so yeah…
