I’m not a hundred percent sure what Jared is doing. Making sure the whole facility is destroyed? Making sure that *most* of the prisoners are released? Both?
Jared says the tremors aren’t Mech-Tech’s doing, but it all seems like what happened when the EPA shut down the Ghostbuster’s containment unit. If her merger with Cloud is draining the power to keep the monsters at bay then she’s inadvertently doing this.
Incidentally, Jared, anarchism is not about eschewing established authority just for teh lulz. It’s about _not needing_ a central body of government because everyone is supposed to be an intelligent person capable of ruling his or her own actions. And I think that describes Tim in a nutshell (well, married Tim, at least)
One might inquire as to whether or not Mr. Fedyg will be able to save himself in the brief moment between the explosion destroying the seals, and it destroying him.
Haha, if this is how Feddyg goes out, though, it’s completely anti-climatic. No final battle, no going all “A GOD AM I”, no spot as the final bad guy… Hell, his last lines probably won’t be all that deep. If FANS is winding down soon, it seems more apparent to me that The Hand will be the final villains fought, which, to me, is funny, since they came out of nowhere and I personally always expected Feddyg to feel that role, being an established character. It’s all the more fitting, because dying like this is the perfect punishment for Feddyg’s crimes; he’s all about control, but, in this situation, he has precisely no control at all.
Yeah… Honestly, Feddyg’s never been likable for me as a villain, not relatable in any way… and not remotely enjoyable as far as his measures of evil go. He’s just so damn bland, of the steepling his fingertips and loudly proclaiming how ‘eeeevil’ he is… Which just tends to make him annoying to deal with. Please, just let him die the hell off and have the final fight, if any, be something far more interesting.
Of course, after Penny and Aggie, I honestly doubt there’ll be a remotely satisfying end to the series at all; I’d half suspect the entire thing will stay in limbo at the end with no real RESOLUTION, but I suppose we’ll see. =|
I didn’t realize until just now that Tim has a unibrow.
Are the tremors caused by the bucketful of grenades deployed to destabilize the load-bearing structure of the Aegis head quarters? I’m unclear as to what is going on.
I’m confused too. If it’s the grenades causing the tremors then Jared is trying to make it look like an attack, or perhaps he’s destroying Aegis headquarters so Mectech can’t control it. But either way he’s also trying to make Feddyg’s death look like a suicide, which won’t happen if he’s crushed in the rubble, so I’m at a loss.
I may be misreading, but the tremors appear to have begun before Jared’s arrival in what was once the unconscious collective. I believe the intention of the grenades is a fail-safe against possible ‘really bad’ escapes. With the level of shaking, it’s plausible that Fedyg’s cell could have collapsed on top of him before Jared got there, so all he really has to do is not save him.
But he says “couldn’t live with the guilt of what you’d done” when describing the scenario to Feddyg. It’s supposed to look like he took his own life. Or maybe it’s supposed to look like he “stayed behind to die” in the collapse of the building. That would probably make sense.
@ Locke. Feddyg dieing an anticlimactic death would be similar to Lorne killing Lindsey in the last episode of Angel, but I think he’s mildly annoyed with Jared than anything else. He’s been prepared to die and bored with life anyway since he can’t make anyone miserable. He wouldn’t be happy if it was said that he couldn’t live with himself, but seeing as how he’d be dead people could say whatever they wanted anyway. Feddyg is very good at turning defeats into modest victories so even if he dies he at least has the satisfaction of knowing things were going so badly that Jared killed him rather than risk using him or let him see the Hand crush his former enemies.
Has anyone noticed that reporter man has been shown on TVs in the background quite frequently in the last few pages? Hmm. (Hyper-Man makes his debut finally?)
What about those continent-cracking terrors Dezzy Jones was worried enough about to have kept dormant under the old FIB facility? Any chance MechTech’s tampering with AEGIS systems has woken them up?

So they got a video game playing monster and Charlotte. It’s a start I suppose.
@Gundi I’m starting to think that something has invaded AEGIS and is causing the tremors.

Man, Jared, you sure are clumsy, dropping all those grenades like that. No littering!
AEGIS is gonna go BOOOM

I understand what you’re saying, Moebius, but remember whom you’re talking to.

*hoping Feddyg dies*
Gawd, I would hope against hope that Feddyg isn’t going to be any kind of End Boss. He’s easily my least-favorite character ever.

I’m thinking Feddyg’s end, at this point, would best be modeled by the end of Red Jack in Doom Patrol.
I didn’t realize until just now that Tim has a unibrow.

The only thing I don’t get is what Feddyg is shouting. Is Cognomen actually Jared’s last name?
@jon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognomen

@Jon, Yes, “Jared Cognomen” is his full name. It’s appeared in the strip a few times but I’m too lazy to find the link.
@Jon
He explicitly calls him Jared Cognomen in the previous comic, right there in the 4th panel.

@Fata_Morgana – Ah, I missed that. Thanks.
So Jared’s last name is essentially “last name”
