In the timeline Maxi came from, Rumi died in today’s battle, right?
Knowing now who Bellhop is, I have to wonder how the hell that could have been allowed to happen. Maybe he killed her by accident in that timeline the way he killed Joseph in this timeline.
Maybe people are too quick to judge. Rumy is focused enough on Rikk to betray everyone for him. But she’s also sharp enough to only pretend to do so. She’s complex enough to be going either way on this, so we’ll have to see which it is in due time.
@LockeZ. That’s what they were told, but if the survivors of the battle gave accounts that Will was vaporized and Rumy and Rikk were teleported out and possibly never seen again then they probably claimed they were killed in battle.
One could argue that Rumy was betrayed since her colleagues withheld the information about the identity of the time travelers. And in addition to saving Rikk’s life she might be able to avert the future that leads to Joseph’s ultimate demise.
Origin of the Hand theory: each of them is a half-human, half alien. Like Rumy’s soulson, they are a result of close contact of third base+ kind but with different alien species hence their vastly different powers but generally humanoid appearance. The only other “loony” that we have the origin story of is the Hyperman and he conforms after a fashion. Of course every loony thinks they know how to save the world of their ancestors to shepherd them along into galactic exploration and peace and prosperity. They don’t get how violent and incurable we are…
I wonder, isn’t this what fans has always been about? Not what these invaders are doing, but what Soulsun/Solson is saying: Fighting, not for the world as it is, but as it can be in the future? Rumy will find herself at the hinge on this.
KaT Adams, I must disagree. Fans are often referred to as dreamers in this comic, and dreamers and pragmatists are two opposite sides of the spectrum. Unless another outrageous plot twist occurs within the next few strips, I believe we have witnessed the death of Rumy the dreamer.
@Moebius S-T…. “dreamers and pragmatists…” … “the death of Rumy the dreamer…” but… what was Rummy’s dream? being a mangaka was a “real dream” for Rumy? or just a way to go on passive opposition to family values? When Alsin & Rick presented the Excalibur to her as a “happy toy” not so long ago, it was clear to me that holding a pen over a paper was out of her soul (or that her “partners” only see her as a violent anger driven chick). No longer a mangaka she was…. So she gave up on being an artist for herself, as she gave up on being a yamato nadeshiko for her sister, and she gave up on a normal relationship when she accepted the treesome with R & A. …. i wonder if she has given up on her nationality altogether (now that she works for gov)… and she has given up on normal (biological) motherhood… All that and what for? … What is it that drives Rummy? … dreams were thrown out the window a long time ago, me thinks…
Bellhop ordered the Chenoxiclets to remove Rikk from Animal’s blood and yet he now promises Rumy to help her cure Rikk. One action contradicts the other. Rikk’s removal must be planned by Bellhop as a ruse to manipulate Rumy into betrayal.
One – Commiekeebler, I hope you’re right, or that we at least get some clarity on that point soon, cause this “what are they” thing really needs to be answered. The implication has been that the Cuckoos are one race, but the amount of contradictory evidence is staggering – MechTech is a machine, Hyperman is a shape-shifting Grey, Bellhop is half-human/half-Xenochiclet, Animal is a Mhuppet… them all being of the same race would defy logic. In fact, it simply CAN’T be true at this point. But if they were just a motley-crew of different species, I’m not sure why they would have such a vested interest in Earth. But if they were each half-human, and that was the link they shared, then things become clearer.
Two – Regarding Rumy’s choice here… I have to think that she’s actually, knowingly or unknowingly, made the choice to lose Rikk in order to save him. She’s sacrificing the whole world to save his life and despite Rikk’s capacity to forgive I can’t imagine him ever holding onto his love for her after that. It’s the antithesis of everything he believes in and in that sense, is as much a hateful act as a loving one. I fear that even if Rikk survives, Rikk and Rumy will be done.
I always like Kyle from the start. In many ways he is very much like Rick IMO.
For me his defining moment was when he first became ION and DIDN’T get into a fight with Supes when he got his talking to about “helping vs keeping” humanity.
Eeeeeyup.
From the moment Solson was revealed as the Bellhop, this was pretty much expected.
Ooooh. Oh Rumi.
#*@&
@Raiser: Agreed. I wouldn’t have expected Rumy to choose otherwise. Whether it ends up being the…shall we say, “least bad” choice remains to be seen.
Noooooooooooo…

The Ways The World Ends, part #
I don’t think we’re getting a happy ending to Fans.

‘Kay, in retrospect, should have seen this coming.

Aaaaaaand cue betrayal.
Hmh. I actually vocalized an orchestra sting (combined with a sad trombone).

You can’t get people to start liking Wally West and Kyle Rayer until you kill off or defame Hal Jordan and Barry Allen.
But when you bring back Hal Jordan and Barry Allen they realise how much they liked Wally West and Kyle Rayner.

We’ll live forever
knowing together
that we did it all
for the glory of love.
So two things –
