Hmm.. Her favourite series is Star Wars iirc. Vader redeemed himself trying to save Luke from the Emperor.
Meaning that Love is the key to saving/stopping the upcoming traitor.
Here’s an off the wall idea, what if the traitor is Rikk himself? I mean, Anakin was supposed to bring balance to the Force and stop the evil Sith. Now who else has had a Savior status placed upon them?
We also saw earlier that Rikk was willing to set aside his own personal principles for the sake of his unborn child. So maybe he cuts a deal with the Hand for Animals blood to cure him, just so he can be there for the kid? And they probably end up double crossing him in the end, or the disease nails him. Hence why he’s not shown in the future where they come from.
I think that Shanna would only keep mum for Will and Rikk, and if it had been her, then she’d be aware of the whole trying to stop the past cliche and how that rarely works. Then again, I also have no doubt that she’d have no problem with her old version getting offed in order to save Humanity.
So that just leaves Will and Rikk. And Rikk is pretty much the last person you’d expect to turn on the Fans, considering he’s their heart and soul.
ITEM! It’s so nice to see Guthrie again, even if he’s all “Yeah, don’t get too excited about it. This is just a cameo. My days as a supporting character are pretty much over”. And thank Odin he shaved that horrible pornstache he had at the end of Book 5
ITEM! It’s so funny to see the world’s least sexual man use that kind of metaphor in this kind of situation. Thank you, Tim. He’s almost one of us now.
ITEM! I like the way Di takes something from Rumy and makes it flashier when she puts her own special twist on it. Like Rumy’s martial art style: Di made it flashier by virtue of her bigger size and strength, as well as her fancy ballerina moves. Rumy’s black gi is another example: Di took it, and it’s definitely _flashier_ on her…
The two movie posters she has on her wall are The Lion King and The Matrix. On her shelf she also had some movies: Electra, Beowulf, Wonder Woman, Mulan, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland. I’m not sure any of these actually feature a male character being redeemed except for Alice in Wonderland, and that’s only if it’s one of the newer spin-offs. So I’m kind of confused.
If she is indeed referring to Return of the Jedi, then Darth Vader was redeemed by destroying his master to protect his son. …Oh shit. Is that a clue about the betrayal? Probably so, which means I’m no longer as sure as I was about who it’s going to be. Lots of red herrings swimming around here…
Occam’s Razor: He was redeemed through Heroic Sacrifice. Someone is going to die, it’s going to be in Di’s power to stop it, and future Di is either telling past Di that she shouldn’t prevent it, or that she shouldn’t beat herself up over not preventing it.
Di has, or at least had, a ‘parents have to die before you can shine’ thing that she’s projected on Rumi before. Maybe Ru will sacrifice herself to save Di?
‘Course, that parallel doesn’t really work unless Rumi first goes dark-side. But she *is* the one character that’s been suggested to the reader as discontent with the direction and focus of the team, whose priorities might lie elsewhere, with nabbing Animal.
Sounds like Grade A distractions to me… Guthrie’s going to be so busy with the mathematicals (months just to unpack it, who knows how long to actually understand all of it, and then go past it even more.) and Diana is now going to be watching movies left and right (after all, the movie future her thinks is her favorite might be coming out in 2 months!).
@Sasha : true, Rikk believes in secret that it was him and not her.
But Rikk believes he is responsible for everything that happens around him.
That is his strenght and his weakness.
but… Jackie carried that cross alone… because he keep it for himself… uhmm…
I can totally understand Guth staying on the slidelines, but personally I do hope we get to see more of him in the background of events! He’s a personal favorite character of mine…
It can’t be Jesse betraying them by protecting the general’s clone, because the general’s clone is only here because she travelled back in time to prevent the betrayal.
There’s someone else who has a child though. Who would do anything to protect his son; he would betray his friends, his government, his entire world. Give up everything he’s worked his whole life to achieve. Sacrifice his own life. His name isn’t Darth Vader; it’s Rikk. As Darth Vader was redeemed by betraying the Empire, so too might Rikk betray Earth to protect his son.
That would also offer an explanation of why the time-travellers weren’t told the whole truth. Because one of them was that son.
Wait…, he redeemed himself by betraying the Empire…, what if the betrayal is a lack of betrayal. Hear me out.
What if, in sticking to their guns, making no deals, fighting tooth and nail, they end up allowing The Hand to look like white knights, betraying humanity. By compromising and meeting them halfway, they prove that they are the bigger individuals, making The Hand seem unreasonable, and humanity rejects them to embrace the real heroes. Only through betrayal can they stop the larger betrayal.
@Jesse: Clearly your the betrayal maker, making us think of us doing betrayal to not do betrayal… Madnessman I clearly be! Or am I have done a betrayal on my insanity?
And so, this week’s fifth panel becomes a etched in history’s greatest face-palm moments.
I love Guthrie. Being Tim’s friend but not one for crudeness really makes for a fascinating individual.

Guth misses Tim
Besides, if he expends a lifetime developing a lifetime of research, this timeline will end up more advanced, fast.
…Wow he’s been hanging out with Tim. …A lot.
Yeah, uh, Guth, about that, see, your future self wasn’t a “he”, if you want to be specific…
Good to see Guth in the comic again. To bad it seems to have been just to tell us he’s not going to be in the comic again :-p

I’m pretty sure he meant (_)flashier(_).

A more accurate thing to say about RIkk is not that he would now betray anyone, but that his past betrayal would be exposed.
That is to say, the fact that *he* was responsible (not Jackie) for the final FANS! 1.0 crisis.
@Sasha : true, Rikk believes in secret that it was him and not her.

Or maybe I’m just overthinking this.

Betray harder!
