Hmmm. At first I thought Rikk and Soulson were in cahoots trying to goad Animal to attack, but if Soulson’s intent was to turn on his partners he could’ve teleported Animal off the island when he first attacked Di. I think Rikk is trying to goad Animal into attacking him so they can’t use him as a hostage or he’s hoping he’ll get so badly maimed Animal will have to give him some blood to heal the damage which will also cure his disease.
Rikk’s speaking to Soulson with image-words moments after figuring out what he actually is. Rikk may not have any particular powers, but he’s still one of the most impressive people in the comic. Brains over brawn, for over a decade.
“Shut up, Rikk Oberf! Stop trying to be the ‘cool father figure’ here! You’re not my father!” (Soulson teleports to his room slamming his portal behind him while playing some loud Nickelback songs on his stereo)
I don’t think the words in the last panel are image-word communication but I could be wrong. My initial thought was that Rikk’s plan was to goad Animal into attacking him to force Bellhop/Soulson to intervene, thus giving him that final push he needs to abandon the Hand.
Hey… so I just remembered that at one point or another, either the Fans or the FIB had to deal with a bunch of homicidal Mhuppets. Is that where Animal comes from? Anyone remember what I’m talking about? Yeesh, this comic needs a Wiki…
The only remaining question re: Animal that I can see would be whether he is actually a Mhuppet or whether he’s the same species as Link and the others and just took on a Mhuppet’s body. T hasn’t stated it outright but I get the feeling that at this point we’re supposed to conclude that all the cuckoos except Soulson are of the “mindform” race.
That final panel is epic.
Epic, epic Rikk…
Kinda loooks like a meme, I would expect that kind of framing from Lisa in QB.

I guess Bellhop doesn’t realize that Rumi’s not batman, and therefore can’t breathe in space.

I don’t think he’s counting on Bellhop to intervene, given that Bellhop just specifically stated he wants Rikk dead.
He might be counting on Rumy to go nuts and seek vengeance after he dies, though.
…counting on twisting his wife’s mind with his horrible death and make her go on a revenge spree? um. yikes. I don’t think that’s the Rikk we know.
i think that rikk has not yet figured out what soul son’s deal is even though he’s realized that he’s Rumy’s first child.

What else is there to figure out?
Oh, no, I tried one of those.
The M’huppet connection will probably not be explored in the amount of time we have.

Well, depending on Rikks plan we migh finally figure out what it means to sell one’s soul to God.
To be honest, I’ve been waiting to see how the Big Man might collect that debt for a while now.
