ouch. so self-fullfilling prophecies can only hinder in this campaign? which means that wills ‘death’ was to maintain the timeline to certain points. which leads to the next question: what fixed points in the timeline must be maintained? i have a bad feeling that means that Jared killed Hyperman, but his plan to make sure Keith also died failed.
I don’t think that Will’s “death” was to defend the timeline, it’s just part of moving into a new plan. Guth said himself that the fact that Will is there means that the initial plan failed. There’s no reason to think that any of that will be the same- besides, what we’ve seen of Feddyg in the future? That won’t happen unless the team has been flat-out beaten. There’s no “good end” world where that occurs because that’s already after the bad end.
In the last panel, the Hand is grouped in a peculiar way. Ult, Mechtech and Link can be dangerous by themselves, but it requires a group of Animal, Bellhop and Wheaties to take on Aegis. The Hand was not created equal.
Once the recorded message ends, Will needs to put a quarter in that game. Then, he needs to select Sub-Zero, or Reptile. And then, kick the living **** out of Future Guth. Then, he needs to get out of that Phantom Zone/Bag of Holding thing and then, Will needs to do to Tiki Wiki what he fantasized doing to that arcade game. Why? Because if Future Guthrie is correct and information _is_ the cause of their defeat, then it follows that pummeling the hoarder of all information is a surefire way of eliminating all danger of losing.
What Guth is saying now, goes along with what happens with psicohistory manipulations. The less people knows, the easier it is to predict their behaviour. But also it was said that it only works on massive amounts of people. It can`t predict individuals. And extraordinary individuals break all predictions.
And so…we are now left to luck and chance. Open the door and let the kids go out, hope they find their way to school and back alive. It must happen right in at least one quantum universe. What’s left is to take note and follow that one timeline and name it the True One Timeline.
I think that Guth figured out that if AEGIS knew that the Xenochiclets were allied with the Hand, AEGIS would attempt to control them, but that would lead to a full-on betrayal and a more extreme response by the Hand which AEGIS would be unprepared for. The improvisational strategy appears to rest on the Hand underestimating AEGIS, which they are, if Jared’s killing of Ult and Tiki Wiki’s infiltration are any evidence.
HA, Drakkin, I was not even thinking about psychohistory, but you’re right in that it seems to be what Guthrie is doing…
Well, it sounds like Guthrie did a might better than Hari Seldon with his psychohistory productions if he was able to model how the Team would respond to the future information. That was one kink that Seldon was not ever able to work out.
Thanks guy. Reading your comment and Commiekeebler’s I realised that I skipped the collectively in Guth’s bubble. Glad I commented or I’d have probably missed it till some future read through.
I admit that those last two aren’t world-ending scary without the teleporter, but… Bellhop could be pretty damn dangerous on his own. Or maybe he wouldn’t be evil without some of the others’ influence?
How much of Shanna has rubbed off on Will over the years? I think that third panel says plenty.
It’s not such a bad strategy seeing as how it contributed to Ult’s death.

Or, you know Guth, you could tell them what happens AND the stuff they are otherwise going to fail to predict.
So each one of the Hand’s members could usher in the end of the human era. Iiiinteresting…
I must have been underestimating some.
Will looks happy in panel two. Haven’t seen him this happy in ages.
So, to what tune do I sing that, exactly?
@Locke: “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad” worked for me.
In the last panel, the Hand is grouped in a peculiar way. Ult, Mechtech and Link can be dangerous by themselves, but it requires a group of Animal, Bellhop and Wheaties to take on Aegis. The Hand was not created equal.
@Rowen Morland:
If I’m reading Guth right, only three of them could actually do it alone. The other three would have to tag-team to make it happen.

Guthrie makes it sound as if there are 2 different groups. I wounder if Bellhop really isn’t on the Hands team 100%.

Suddenly, I don’t trust Guthrie. At all.

With that face, and the way he’s saying it, I feel like he’s channeling Phelous.
Interesting that Guth is not in Di’s body in this recording.
“Collectively, Bellhop, Animal and Wheaties.”
