Please tell me that we’re not going to see the people and leaders of the world blithely accept that the Hand is not involved in any of the bad shit happening (ok, it’s actually true that they didn’t cause the satellite to shoot, but given it just shot AEGIS’ own headquarters wouldn’t people be kind of suspicious about that?)
That’s how it usually is. Very open ended. Well Mec-Tech survived, but from what she just said I wonder if there were others that were evacuated and not a part of Tim’s team.
Most were. The AEGIS personnel started clearing out as soon as Jared told them to. Tim’s group freed even prisoners who didn’t join them, like the gamer girl with the crocodile face. There were some prisoners like Keith whom Jared judged too dangerous to be freed, even if that meant essentially making himself their executioner.
The only lie actually told in panel 2 is that the destruction of AEGIS HQ was a “malfunction.” After which the BS starts flying in earnest.
(“AEGIS personnel” above means “members of AEGIS who didn’t belong to an action Team.” We haven’t seen too many of these guys around, but Beaver is one left over from the FIB days.)
The image of Mechtech, looking serious-faced, pops up on a teenager’s iPad. President Obama looks hard into his laptop, which displays Mechtech. A Secret Service representative and a foreign-policy aide are standing by. Obama weighs this situation as carefully as any man in his position ought to. He has seen AEGIS reports that the Hand is more violent and less benevolent than it appears, but AEGIS has lost a lot of credibility in the last six months, and blowing themselves up hasn’t helped ~~~d. Should he ~~~ the Hand? Dare he antagonize the Hand, the wrong choice could doom thousands…millions…billions. Obama stands as Link enters from the adjoining hallway. The satellite floats in space, as the ghostly image of a concentrating Mechtech hovers behind it as in a movie poster. Mechtech couldn’t break the firewall in time to save Ult, but that doesn’t mean she can’t break it at all , and when she does, the Hand can wreak more destruction, and blame AEGIS for the results. The last four words in this caption are in a different font and underlined, as if added to the main ~~~age by an automatic “personalization” feature. Will begins swimming as best he can through the “u~~~space,” s~~~ing to ma~~~
I filled in the blanks as best I can, so it’s easier for others to read. Love the technique. First time I saw it used was in the intro for Cowboy Bebop, but I don’t know if that’s the first time it’s been used.
Thanks LightSaberMario. Well if Ult is truly dead I wonder if it really matters. Up until he invaded AEGIS HQ he really hadn’t done anything and the rest were getting by well enough without him. He had super powers, but not a lot of sense when using it and he might’ve been lucky to survive all the attacks on AEGIS and Ar’rad in the alternate future. They got Wheaties for strength, Bellhop and Banana for teleportation which beats flying, and technology give Mec-Tech the ability to mimic most of Ult’s other powers. Aside from killing Shanna in the future which I’m sure the other cuckoos could handle in his place his death might not be much of a loss.
I think you’re underestimating him- look at his powerset. What you’re saying is like saying that taking Superman out of the Justice League. Powerful group either way to be sure, but I’m confident they’re not nearly as strong without him.
“enemies to no one but the unjust.” too bad that definition seems to change at their own whim.

@T Campbell.
Good to see that Tim was Tim and didn’t leave anyone to that fate, even when all of the crumbs have been launched into the fan.
Will, you weren’t listening to a word Tiki Wiki said, were you?
I just hope that was enough to take out Hyperman.
I like that the script fills in the word backstory – very neat
Bush… Obama… Is every president now going to be characterized with big ears? Because that’s a trend I’m starting to notice.
Also, I’m hoping the next page is a pitched battle between him and Crosshatch Man.
In the title-script, I can just about make out “Mechtech couldn’t break the firewall in time to save Ult”.
Unless it really says “in time to somersaUlt”.
and so the downward spiral continues. the future has changed but as it changed enough? also is that link walking in on the president?
World building is always a smart move. Always. Hoping for Obama to be not totally trusting of The Hand.
She lives!
The crocodile face! It’s not over yet, Marc!

The u-space… the final frontier.
The uber space? The under space? The ult space?
I am not getting any sleep tonight, I can tell.
The urn space.

“farun polisy”? Is that supposed to imply that Obama is likely to get less than the best advice on this ordeal?
@Locke – Meh. Obama comes by it honestly.
@kingleon – My question is, is “farun polisy” guy supposed to be Biden?
