Why does it always seem like it's the brilliant ones who are touched by madness?

Oberf made some great leaps of reasoning. I'd be a fool to deny that. He spotted how Cassiopeia was gathering her power, deduced her addictive tendencies, and fished out just how she got out of F.I.B. custody in the first place. I tried to bluff him, but I think he was on to me.

But he also made that great leap out of a moving airplane. And when he was cross-examining me, he made this scary little sneer. I'm a FIBber; I hunt monsters for a living. But that sneer made me feel like there were spiders in my hair.

Oberf could've been the next Jones, I think. He had that potential. But now it's looking more and more like he'll be the next Agent Miller. Useful for a while, and then-- BAM-- meltdown. And of course, we'll be the ones to run in with the rad-suits and the containment foam. His Rot'N friends sure won't be. They'd follow him to the ends of the Earth.

I was watching "Amadeus" the other night. Not the kinda thing I usually relax with, but it was on. And of course, the irony is that it's Mozart, not Salieri, who belongs in the insane asylum, and he would have been put there if not for his musical talent. Then there's Bobby Fischer. And John Nash.

To be the best, do I have to discard my sanity?

Rendezvousing with Rot'N in thirty minutes; barely time to make a journal entry. I won't let Jones down. Part of me hopes that we will find something wrong, because I know that would be good for the old career. But I can't let that bias my search.

Jones called me, Kaja, and Steve in yesterday. He aired his concerns about the Science-Fiction "Club" (or as we call them over here, "the Revenge of the Nerds," or "Rot'N" for short). They've started to behave oddly (well, MORE oddly), and he's devised a magical loyalty test. Jones trusts me to follow up on anything we learn from it.

Every time I repeat those words, I still don't quite believe them.

***Jones trusts me.***

Still no word from Agent Mist. Our prayers are with him. I'm an agnostic and he's an atheist, but it's the thought that counts.

This journal is the private property of Agent Samal. Reading it without permission is a felony.
